Summer is here, let the real work begin!

Summer is here and the days feel very full. All 6 of the kids are home for the summer, YEAH! What that means is each day is different with errands to run and activities to take on.

When I shut the doors to my classroom this year the last conversation I have with a coworker was that next year would be different in Foods. That the program is winding down and something that used to be a team effort to raise food supplies funds would now be more individual, class specific.

Okay, so what does that me for me.... it means preparing recipes that I know I can sell to students and staff. It means teaching baking and cooking methods using recipes that can easily be costed so I know what my profits should be. It means probably more baking than cooking. More Focaccia and Calzone than Burrito.

One of the sights I love to use is budgey bytes. Although I have to always increase the dairy and meat prices it gives me a good place to start with my recipes. It also tends to have the type of food that my student customers enjoy.

So while I am enjoying the errand running and summer time activities the real work begins when the sun goes down. Once the kids are in bed I'm getting down to business and preparing for the semester ahead.

If your balancing that summer life and work life here is some encouragement in food themed post it notes.
